Meet the Real Bosses

Behind the scenes at The Sassy Tortie are two very opinionated supervisors: Hazel and Sasha.

The girls joined our family when we adopted them from our local humane society at around 12 weeks old in the Fall of 2020. They are littermates and have been inseparable since birth, and you can definitely tell. Where one goes, the other is usually not far behind.

Meet Hazel

Hazel is our classic tortoiseshell with plenty of personality. She has a tiny bend at the end of her tail that she’s had since the day we brought her home, which only adds to her unique charm. Hazel is a little on the shy side and tends to be pretty skittish around most people. I’m definitely her person, while she mostly just tolerates my husband and daughter. Even though she’s cautious, Hazel has absolutely no problem “talking” and letting you know exactly what she thinks.

Meet Sasha

Sasha, our tortie-in-disguise, is the complete opposite in many ways. She is incredibly chill and loves attention. Instead of big meows, she makes the tiniest little sounds we call “meeps.” Sasha has clearly chosen her people in the family, my husband and daughter. In fact, when my daughter gets home from school, Sasha usually goes straight to find her because she knows it’s time for attention and cuddles. If you sit down for more than a minute, there’s also a good chance Sasha will jump into your lap whether you invited her or not.

Both girls are a little suspicious of new visitors and will usually retreat to their favorite hiding spot under the bed until the coast is clear. But once they feel safe, their sweet and quirky personalities shine through.

Hazel was likely the smallest of the litter, but both girls have grown into beautiful long-haired cats who have brought so much love, laughter, and personality into our home. They may not help make the tumblers, but they are absolutely the inspiration behind The Sassy Tortie and they take their job as household protectors very seriously.
